Host a People's Address on the day Trump addresses Congress

Our movement is growing. Members of Congress have encountered unprecedented crowds at their town hall meetings during #ResistanceRecess—or been exposed in the media for not facing up to their constituents. The tide is turning against repealing the Affordable Care Act, and pressure is mounting for Congress to subpoena Trump's tax returns and launch an investigation.

Now, this Tuesday, Trump will give his first address to Congress. Instead of subjecting ourselves to more of the same terror, insults, and unconstitutional actions, we are organizing People's Addresses all around the country!

We'll share our stories and our hopes for our country and our communities. We'll share action plans. And we'll make joyful noise! Check out this #ResistTrumpTuesdays People's Address in New York for inspiration. Trump's speech is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. (8 CT/7 MT/6 PT); you can plan your event either during the speech, or anytime beforehand. Invite local news media, who are interested to hear local reactions to Trump's speech.

Will you host a People's Address this Tuesday, February 28, to remind our members of Congress that they work for us, not Trump?

Instructions for hosts:

  • All events should be held on Tuesday, February 28, in a public, accessible venue, such as in front of (or very near) your member of Congress' office. Only events on Tuesday, February 28 will receive a recruitment email to nearby MoveOn members.
  • For the venue, please list the office—i.e., "Senator X's Springfield Office." You can find your senators' district office locations on this map or by searching the member of Congress' website.
  • Lunch hour is generally a good time to hold your event to maximize attendee turnout and media coverage. Since Trump's speech is in the evening, you can also consider an evening hour.
  • Please ensure the event is held on public property and not on private property (where you could be asked to leave).

Whether you've hosted an action before or not, we will provide you with all the information you need to hold a successful event! Hosting an action is simple and fun.  You’ll be provided with a host guide, invited to join a prep call for event hosts, and you’ll receive support to invite attendees and the media to your event. We will work hard to review all questions that are emailed to us.

By creating an event, you are agreeing to serve as the host of the meeting. Your responsibilities as host include:

      • Arranging that all the necessary materials are brought to the event (you can ask other participants for help).
      • Contacting and communicating with the people who participate in your event. We will encourage attendees not to attend an event where the host has not confirmed their participation.
      • Filing a quick post-meeting report.
