MoveOn

Political Organizations

We are a movement of ordinary Americans who want to build a country where everyone can thrive with dignity and fairness.

About us

MoveOn is the largest independent, progressive, digitally-connected organizing group in the United States. Launched in 1998, MoveOn pioneered online organizing and advocacy techniques that have become standard in politics, nonprofits, and industry in the U.S. and worldwide. We combine rapid-response political campaigning with deep strategic analysis, rigorous data science and testing, and a culture of grassroots member listening and participation that allows us to consistently and quickly identify opportunities for progressive change–and mobilize millions of members to seize them. MoveOn members step up as leaders by using the MoveOn Petitions DIY organizing platform to create their own petitions and campaigns to drive social change. We are constantly innovating how we organize at scale and work together to win the biggest campaigns of our time— ending the Iraq War, electing Barack Obama president, enacting health care reform, and taking down the Confederate flag from the state house grounds in South Carolina. MoveOn is made up of two organizations: MoveOn.org Civic Action, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization focusing on education and advocacy, providing civic engagement tools to the public, and building the progressive movement by encouraging and supporting the development of more grassroots leaders. MoveOn.org Political Action, meanwhile is a federal PAC focused on running powerful progressive advocacy campaigns and demonstrating MoveOn members’ power at the ballot box by electing candidates who reflect MoveOn members’ values.

President Trump, his corrupt administration, and the entire Republican Party want us to roll over and feel powerless as they take a chainsaw to our rights and services. Not on our watch! The most important check left on President Trump is us. Here are five things you can do to ratchet up the pressure: https://lnkd.in/eMjpjnsQ

    • Graphic titled "5 Steps You Can Take Right Now to Fight Back Against the MAGA Agenda" with a boxing glove punching in from the top right corner. The graphic includes five action steps in a numbered list:

1. Call your member of Congress and tell them how funding cuts to things like Social Security and Medicaid are hurting real people. 877-650-0039

2. Visit your member of Congress’s office to deliver a letter or demand to speak to a staffer to express your concerns.

3. Demand that your members of Congress stop hiding and hold a town hall with constituents.

4. Share how the Trump/Republican funding cuts are harming your life and livelihood to your congress members and on social media.

5. Follow us for news about future protests & events.

At the bottom, there is an image of Donald Trump in a suit, yelling, with a red circular background behind him. The MoveOn logo appears in the lower left corner.

𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐲𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐢𝐝: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐬 Millions of Americans rely on Medicaid to live – and Trump, Musk, and Republicans in Congress want to cut it to fund tax cuts for billionaires. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐢𝐝? Medicaid is a state and federal program that funds health care for more than 70 million Americans. 𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑡’𝑠 1 𝑖𝑛 5 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑠. This includes disabled people, older adults, children living in poverty, and families caring for loved ones. 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬. It is a lifeline for aging and disability care in homes and nursing facilities. It pays for 𝑛𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑦 ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑓 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑏𝑖𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑠. And it helps keep rural hospitals open and operating. Many Americans don’t even realize they have Medicaid, as it’s under a different name in each state. Without Medicaid, more people will be forced to go without necessary care until they reach a breaking point and need to receive care in emergency rooms. Americans would get sicker, and hospitals would become overburdened. 70% 𝑜𝑓 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑖𝑑. But Trump and Republicans want to take health care away from working people to pay for additional tax cuts for billionaires and huge corporations. You’ll hear Trump and Republicans hide behind bureaucratic jargon: 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬  = Giving each state a set amount of Medicaid funds, instead of matching the costs. This would force states to reduce benefits and strain state budgets. 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 = Make recipients jump through hoops and prove their work status. This would take away care from the disabled, the elderly, and family caregivers. 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐬 = Each American would have a price limit on their health care – essentially ending care for millions of Americans who need it most. But it’s all just a fancy way for Trump and Republicans to say they want to cut Medicaid and take away health care from millions of people so they can give tax breaks to the rich. Trump has quickly chosen the people he wants to govern beside him with his Cabinet picks. Some patterns have emerged in those picks. One is that many of his picks have Ivy League backgrounds. Another is that many of them have openly denied the results of the 2020 election. While Trump’s picks may seem unconventional and scary, why do they matter? Here’s what the Cabinet does and why it matters in your daily life: https://lnkd.in/ep3J7XhT

The climate crisis is here, and we need bold action to protect our communities. Multiple fierce wildfires are tearing through Los Angeles—claiming lives, destroying homes, forcing thousands to evacuate, and leaving many without power. All of Los Angeles county is still facing dangerous conditions, and firefighters are working nonstop to contain the flames. If you're in an affected area, please follow evacuation orders and stay safe. We're thinking of everyone impacted.
