For the past seven years, even while Democrats have been elected to the majority in the state Senate by New York voters, a breakaway group of self-serving, conservative Democrats have given power of the chamber to right-wing Republicans.
But next week, we have the opportunity to defeat enough of these eight senators known as the Independent Democratic Conference, or IDC, in Thursday's primary. We can replace them with hard-charging progressives, end GOP control of New York, and put our state on a path to profound progressive legislation.
