The Democratic woman at the top of the ballot lost her race this week — but there was a silver lining of sorts for Democratic women in New Hampshire.
A few hours after presidential nominee Hillary Clinton conceded her race on Wednesday morning, Republican US Senator Kelly Ayotte conceded hers.
Ayotte's loss ushered in a unique era in state and national politics: New Hampshire will send a completely female and completely Democratic delegation to Washington — the first in the nation.
The state's new senator-elect is Democrat Maggie Hassan, currently the governor. She will join Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen. In the state's First Congressional District, former Democratic congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter won her old seat back. And in the Second District, Democratic Representative Annie Kuster held onto hers.
