I was signed up for an event that is no longer on the map. Where did it go?!

  • Only events that are part of the National Day of Action this week are visible on the map. Volunteer hosts have been stepping up to add events to the Nobody Is Above the Law network for 18 months, and not all of those hosts are able to participate this week. Please return to see if new events are added or feel free to create a new event in your area.

Are you hoping to protest?

  • No. We wish these protests were not needed. But we've already seen that they have been necessary. It was with great disappointment that the coalition called for the first activation on November 8, 2018. And we've got to be ready, should democracy need this type of defense again. Donald Trump’s disregard for the truth and his repeated attempts to obstruct the investigation give every indication that, sadly, we may need them a second time.

When will events happen?

  • You may have noticed that there is no date and time for any events. That’s because we’re not sure if or when these events will ever happen!
  • If we call for national events, hosts will be responsible for launching their local events by indicating a specific date and time at which it will take place.
  • See The Plan for info on when we will call for protests if they are needed.

How will I know that the rapid-response plan has been activated?

  • There will be an update on the homepage indicating that events are on.

What if there is no date on the event I want to attend? Is it happening?

  • All events are in the system as prospective rallies. They have no concrete time or date prior to the activation of the national network. Should the national network call for events to occur, hosts will launch their events by indicating a specific date and time.
  • If there is no date or time listed, it is because the host has not specified if and when the event will occur. That may be because they’re busy getting ready and they forgot, or it could mean that they aren’t actually going to be there—maybe they’re hiking the Appalachian Trail and didn’t hear the news! You can still go—others probably will too. But we can’t guarantee that any event will be organized by an active host at the national time at the indicated location.
  • You can send a message to the host to ask if the event is occurring using the "Contact the Host" function on every event page.

What is the address for my event?

  • Event venues are publicly visible.
  • You will see the specific address for the event when you RSVP.

What actions by Donald Trump will trigger the events?

  • See The Plan for a list of actions by Donald Trump that could set these events into motion.

What are your demands?

Why would these actions create a constitutional crisis?

  • That’s an important question. “Constitutional crisis” can get thrown around a lot. But this would be exactly that!
  • It all boils down to defending democracy. The framers of the Constitution clearly wanted limits to the power of the president—that’s why they gave Congress the power to impeach the president, gave the judicial branch the power to say that things the president wants to do are illegal, and even made the president accountable under the law. If Trump obstructs the investigation, it may be a criminal act, and it’s definitely a challenge to whether Congress will protect these limits or allow our democracy to erode into something else.
  • Here’s a great piece about why pardoning key figures as a strategy to obstruct the investigation is an overreach: LINK
  • And here’s a reminder about why firing the person investigating you is an obstruction of justice—a big no-no: LINK

Are overseas events hosted by U.S. expatriates welcome on the map?

  • Unfortunately we are only able to support events in the US for the event map at this time due to compliance issues with new international data regulations. In the past, we had accepted events internationally but hidden them from the map (by marking them "private", as described by Cathleen), so people could still recruit to the event but people in the US (99% of the page traffic) wouldn't see events all over the world when they arrived at the homepage. Since the data regulations went into effect, we have changed that policy.  We suggest creating a Facebook event and promoting that to folks in the area.

What if my event is full?

  • That’s good and bad news! An event being marked as full probably means there are so many people signed up to attend that event that it’s blazed past the upper limit the host set for capacity. But that host may be about to increase the max capacity, so please check back—or start a new event!

Who is behind this?

  • Over 400,000 people have registered to attend, and surely more will show up to take action! You can see the list of some of the organizations that have helped spread the word on the partner page, where you can also indicate that your organization wants to join in!

But @realDonaldTrump tweeted that there was “NO COLLUSION”—so why do we need a special counsel?!

  • Donald Trump says so many things that just are not true that it’s hard to trust anything he says. For example, he told everyone that Mexico would pay for his racist border wall, but it looks as though the American taxpayers will have to pay for it, if it ever happens.
  • The special counsel investigation has already found all sorts of crimes—192 criminal charges and counting! So clearly they’re uncovering real crimes.
    • Here is a running list of all criminal convictions, guilty pleas, people sentenced to prison time, people indicted, and criminal charges.
  • The evidence suggests that there may well have been collusion. See here for a list of every contact between the Trump team and Russian agents.
  • And it’s also possible that Donald Trump committed crimes other than collusion, such as criminal obstruction of justice in his effort to end the investigation by firing FBI Director James Comey.
