Host a Nobody Is Above the Law Community Meeting

Thank you for stepping up to host a community meeting and/or sign-making party to support our "Nobody Is Above the Law" initiative on Saturday April 28 or Sunday April 29. It's an important opportunity to build the team that can work to prevent a Mueller firing or take swift action if a firing occurs.

Creating an event is easy! Just fill out the form below to begin, and complete the confirmation email that will be sent to you for the event to go live.

You can organize the event in your home, if you have the room, or a local community space. Choose a place that's conducive to good group conversation and accessible for folks to get to—perhaps the local library, a park, or office space you have permission to use. You don't need to find a venue that will fit your entire rapid-response list; only a small number of people intending to protest are interested in attending a meeting, but don't invite 5,000 people to a studio apartment! If you aren't 100% sure where you'll hold the meeting yet, that's OK—just register the event with where you think it will be, and you can always change the location if your RSVPs outgrow your living room.

If you are hosting a sign-making party, you can set your event to be either public or private. Events marked as public will , whereas those marked private will not appear on the map or receive recruitment support from MoveOn, and will only be visible to those who receive a direct link from you.

MoveOn staff and volunteers will support you at each step—from developing an agenda for the meeting to offering tips on the types of actions you and your attendees can plan together. We will help you recruit to your event, provide materials to help plan your meeting, hold a prep call a few days before the event to go through all the details, and respond to individual questions along the way. And we'll continue to provide ways for hosts of the "Nobody Is Above the Law" events to continue to learn from each other. These events are happening at a moment of heightened awareness about the need to defend the Mueller investigation, so you may meet some new folks. It's a chance for constructive planning, but it should also be enjoyable as you get to know other folks in your neighborhood committed to confronting Trump's attacks on our democracy. Please note that only events on Saturday or Sunday, April 28 or 29, 2018 will be supported with recruitment from MoveOn. You may host your event on another date without receiving recruitment support.

Partner organizations are urging that no more than one event take place per rapid-response rally team, to minimize the amount of time spent on logistics and maximize the size of each group. If an event already exists near you, please consider attending that event rather than creating your own. You can contact an existing event host to offer assistance after RSVPing to the event. That person can add attendees as co-hosts if they are able to offer additional organizing support.

      Event rules

      Here are the basic requirements for event hosts:

      I understand that support will be given to events hosted on Saturday, April 28, or Sunday, April 29 of 2018.

      Events will be designed with two groups of hosts in mind.

      One type of host will be those hosting Nobody Is Above the Law rapid-response events—these hosts can invite the list of people pledged to attend their event, and treat it as an opportunity to prepare for the events.

      The second type of host is anyone who is not also hosting a Nobody Is Above the Law event but wishes to bring together your friends and family members to create signs in advance of your rapid-response events

      We're organizing community meetings and sign-making parties across the country to

      • get to know each other as we prepare to take action together;
      • create hand-made signs that we can have ready for our rapid-response rallies;
      • further prepare for local rapid-response events, from drawing in more participants to developing the program of the events;
      • discuss how we will ensure protests are safe and peaceful, with tips on security precautions and de-escalating conflict, and
      • talk about what collective actions we might take, both now to prevent a firing and following our planned rapid-response events, if we need to defend a democracy in crisis!

      We will provide you with all the information you need to hold a successful event! Hosting an action is simple and fun.  You’ll be provided with a host guide, invited to join a prep call for event hosts, and receive support to invite attendees to your event. We will work hard to review all questions that are emailed to us.

      By creating an event, you are agreeing to serve as the host of the meeting. Here are your responsibilities as host:

      • Arranging that all the necessary materials are brought to the event (you can ask other participants for help)
      • Contacting and communicating with the people who participate in your event. We will encourage attendees not to attend an event where the host has not confirmed their participation.
      • Filing a quick post-meeting report.

      Here are the rules for hosting events:

      The events will be hosted on a website owned and operated by MoveOn.org. MoveOn is committed to the goal that all events will meet a standard necessary for its members to feel safe at the events. As a result, we are asking everyone volunteering to host a rapid-response event to commit to these agreements in word and spirit.

      By submitting this form you agree

      (1) to follow MoveOn's written directions regarding the organization, messaging, and timetable for events;
      (2) to use all scripts and materials provided by MoveOn for your events;
      (3) not to request or direct, or knowingly permit anyone acting on his/her or its behalf to request or direct, any participant of your events to engage in any unlawful activity, including unlawful nonviolent direct action; and that
      (4) in no event will MoveOn be responsible or liable for any injury to any person or damages to any property occurring in the course of, or by reason of events you organize as a MoveOn volunteer.

      Next, we'll email you a link to confirm your event.
