Congressional Protest to Save Health Care
Trumpcare is back. Republican Senators Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy, Dean Heller, and Ron Johnson have introduced a new bill that would repeal the Affordable Care Act and take away health care from tens of millions of Americans. That's why every Republican senator needs to hear from their constituents today—and every day—until this bill is defeated.
That's why, while senators are home in their states this weekend, MoveOn members and allies across the country will hold rapid-response protests outside local district offices and tell their Republican senators in no uncertain terms: "Do NOT take away our care!"
This bill is even worse than the ones before. Not only are they trying again to kick up to 30 million Americans off of their health care, they're now trying to end protections for pre-existing conditions as well and completely dismantle Medicaid.
We know what it looks like when we allow insurance companies to make these decisions based on people's medical history; that's how things were before the Affordable Care Act. We have to stop it now—which means repeating what stopped the first and second ACA repeal attempts: a whirlwind of constituent pressure on Republican senators.
Hosting an event is easy! We'll provide easy-to-follow instructions for how to plan and recruit for your event, and we'll share some best practices. We'll also invite local MoveOn members to join you in action.
Instructions for hosts:
- Please hold your event on Saturday September 23 if possible. We believe Saturday is our best chance to reach Senators while they are home in their districts.
- Please indicate the venue name clearly—e.g., "Rep X's Springfield Office." You can find your senators' district office locations by searching your senators' website. Find your senator and their website here.
- Only events at Republican senate offices will receive recruitment from MoveOn.
- Select a public, accessible venue, such as in front of (or very near) your senator's office.
