#DreamActNow Speak-outs
Updated 1/22:
As you may have heard, Congress is striking a temporary deal to end the shutdown. But we still do not have a long-term budget that funds children's healthcare and community health clinics, protects 800,000 dreamers, and funds disaster relief.
That's why it's vital that you still hold your event this week. It's imperative that your member of Congress and the media know where we stand—a spending bill must reflect the priorities of the vast majority of Americans not the Trump administration. The fight for the Dream Act is not over.
From Monday, January 22, to Wednesday, January 24, MoveOn members are joining allies at speak-outs across the country to send Republican senators and representatives a clear message: Pass a clean Dream Act now! At these speak-outs, we will tell our members of Congress, the local media, and our neighbors just what's at stake. We'll make it clear that we hold Republicans responsible and we demand that they pass a clean #DreamActNow.
Instructions for hosts:
- All events should be held between Monday, January 22, and Wednesday, January 24, in front of (or very near) your senator's or representative's district office, a federal building, a park, in a high-traffic public space—e.g., a central shopping area, or at Donald Trump himself, such as a building or property that bears his name.
- Change the name of your event to #DreamActNow Speak-Out instead of End the #TrumpShutDown Speak-Out using your host dashboard.
- For the venue, please list the office—i.e., "Senator X's Nashville office."
- Lunch hour is generally a good time to hold your event to maximize attendee turnout and media coverage or right after work when folks can join, in a high-traffic area.
- Please ensure the event is held on public property and not on private property (where you could be asked to leave).
