Social Security is an essential lifeline for tens of millions of Americans—but after years of sustained attacks, we're at risk of losing this critical public program. Beyond seniors, the program also supports children and dependents, people with disabilities, surviving spouses and children. It is urgent that we protect these benefits.

I call on you, as my representative, to be a part of the solution to strengthen and safeguard Social Security and the vital support it provides. Please join over 200 fellow Democrats in cosponsoring H.R. 5723, Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust.

Here is some of what Social Security 2021: A Sacred Trust would do:

- Immediately increase benefits for all participants and implement a more accurate cost of living formula to keep up with inflation.
- Prevent seniors from retiring into poverty by raising the minimum benefit to 125% of the poverty level. 
- Eliminate the burdensome waiting period to receive disability benefits and categorize full-time caregivers as workers.

And we'd achieve all this by having the top .04% of earners pay more of their fair share. Right now, only the first $142,800 earned contributes taxes to fund Social Security. That means that people who make millions each year stop contributing to Social Security in January.

This feels like common sense: Ask those who can afford to, and who have been severely underpaying for years, to pay a little more so that benefits match the current needs of enrollees.
